Lord of the Forge

Rank 39 out of 39. Dead last. The scoreboard doesn’t lie. I’m an artificer—the wrench, not the sword. I keep the people who fight alive. Nobody writes songs about the wrench. Then I punched a broken breastplate in the armory annex at two in the morning, and the crack closed. The plate belonged to Reni. Knight. Level 14. The kind they paint on recruiting banners. When she put it on the next morning, the System told her defense was up forty percent… and asked if she wanted to attach to the forge lord who crafted it anew. Only thing? Nobody’s had a forge lord in three hundred years. Now Reni’s dragging me into breach runs. Cora, the mage the academy said was capped, is casting past her ceiling after I tune her focus. And Petra—the academy’s golden girl—just found out her “perfect” academy-issued lance has been throttling her output since the day they issued it. The glow-up only works when they trust me. Which means I can’t mass-produce it, I can’t sell it, and the man who runs assessments is about to find out I’m something the academy got rid of centuries ago. He’s not going to like this.

About the Author

Ansel Rooke grew up on fantasy paperbacks from the used bookstore down the block. Especially the kind with swords on the cover, maps in the front, and someone being dragged out of their quiet life in chapter one. He found LitRPG, stayed up most of a weekend reading the first one, and decided he wanted to try his hand at the kind of story he kept looking for and not finding.
